Once upon a time …..my great Auntie Betty and her husband, Allan Davis, grew tulips, daffodils, and peonies on this very land! The flowers were bundled and shipped from the old Wynndel packing shed, to be sold in Vancouver. Before the flowers were planted the Davis family tried their hand at growing a variety of berries. The Davis family were the original homesteaders of this property. The guesthouse in the Orchard was built in 1921 and is the only renovated, remodelled, remnants of the original homestead.

The Webber family ultimately bought the property in the spring of 1962. The flowers were still blooming then and it was said to be a breathtaking sight. As you can imagine, it was also a lot of work…and Zora, Wade’s mom, tried it for two years, but finally proclaimed that flower farming was not for her! Zora did at last plant many gardens of her own, and people would always stop to admire their beauty.

Livestock eventually roamed the land and Frank, Wade’s dad, built the big red barn, that still stands, to house the animals. That is the way it was for several years…..until Wade decided to plant the cherry trees in the spring of 1998.

Wade and Michele Webber, of  Webbers Mountainside Cherries, have been producing these delicious Lapin cherries since then. We have been asked, “Why do your cherries taste better than most others?” We attribute it to the high organic matter in the soil,  and the cool breeze that flows down the mountain every evening, pushing the summertime heat out of the orchard.
